Sending Used Clothing and Books

Udayan has recently applied for and received a "green channel" clearance from Indian Customs. We no longer have to pay duty on clothing and other gifts that enter the country for our children.
Clothing:
Please ensure that clothing sent is culturally appropriate. No tank tops or short skirts for girls, please. Our youngest children are five years old and our oldest are 19 so we are grateful for small children's garments as well as adult sizes. The winter months become quite chilly here and warm sweaters and jackets are very appreciated.
Books:
Hindi or Bengali books of any level are very welcome. Books containing English text must be very rudimentary and ideally contain lots of photos or pictures. Books of any language with colourful, bright pictures depicting scenes that the children here may never see are treasured at Udayan.

Volunteering
Due to the sensitive nature of this work, we ask that our volunteers be able to commit to a minimum of one year here. Successful applicants will be provided with room and board at Udayan. The subject areas of expertise that we look for are as follows:
· English
· basic computer skills
· music education
· dancing
· arts and crafts
